Winners & Losers: Electronic Arts, Moody's

The major indices surged Wednesday afternoon following the announcement that the FOMC would not be changing its key interest rate, but the rally fizzled and stocks ended the session lower. The Dow closed down 0.8%, the S&P lost 1.0% and the Nasdaq fell 0.7%.

Here are Wednesday’s winners and losers:

Winners

Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS)
The video-game maker’s shares rose 7.1% on rumors that Microsoft maybe buying the company behind the Madden franchise. Microsoft announced late Wednesday evening that it has no intention of coming through on that rumor. RTS shares last traded at $19.83, up $1.31 on the day.

Ford Motor Co. (F)
The auto manufacturer bucked market trends, with shares jumping 5%, or 35 cents, to end at $7.36.

Xilinx Inc. (XLNX)
The chip manufacturer’s increased sales forecast moved the stock up 4.9% on Wednesday. XLNX shares ended the session at $23.83, up $1.11 on the day.

Losers

Moody’s Corp. (MCO)
The ratings company continued to fall, losing 8.4%, or $1.87 to end at $20.49.

Massey Energy Co. (MEE)
The coal manufacturer dropped 7.7% after Macquarie cut its price target on the U.S. coal sector. MEE shares closed at $30.64, a loss of $2.54.

AutoZone Inc. (AZO)
Dismal quarterly earnings pushed the auto parts dealer down 7.5% on Wednesday. AZO shares finished Wednesday at $141.50, down $11.42 on the day.
