She ‘Sees’ Your Dream Job

Bring your most open and wide-eyed self to this column today because I want to introduce you to a very special author with a powerful mission. Her name is Sue Frederick and her book is called I See Your Dream Job .

Read that title again and understand its meaning. Frederick sees your dream job because she is an intuitive who focuses her gifts on helping people zero in on what their life’s work is meant to be. And there’s numerology, contact with the departed, and meditation in the mix.

If you’re inclined to watch the show Medium and are consistently fascinated by its messages and miracles, you have a bit of insight into Frederick’s gifts. While that series is based on real-life medium Allison Dubois, some of the stories Frederick tells in her book are reminiscent of that life. She sees things, things that can help clarify thoughts you’ve been having or put you on a whole different path that feels much more natural.

“Nudging [from the Universe] is what’s going on when you get fired, laid off, rejected, hired, promoted, or your business goes bankrupt,” Frederick writes. “Your life is on purpose. There are no accidents. Every event, circumstance, and relationship has been nudging you to follow your true path and do your great work -- which is the only path to real success and abundance.”

I know through my own work as a life coach that this statement will resonate with some, bring out the skeptic in some, and anger others. Regardless of where you fall in that, I’ve probably got your attention. Let me share what first got mine in Frederick’s book.

When she was a child, her family used to spend summers at their beach house in Long Beach, Miss. She often woke up screaming from a persistent dream that a wall of water was sweeping over their house. This was mostly dismissed by the family, but it made her grandfather uneasy. The summer she turned 17 -- 1969 -- Hurricane Camille sent a 30-foot-wall of water over the house and left nothing but the concrete foundation.

In addition, her dreams of New Orleans being underwater persisted for 30 years before Hurricane Katrina made it happen.

“My psychic gift is most powerful now that I use it to help others,” Frederick writes. “The precognitive images that I see help me guide my clients to their true work. But it took me more than 50 years to embrace this ability to see the unseen world and learn what it had to teach. … rather than being ashamed and afraid of it.”

When I spoke to Frederick and laughingly referred to this distinct advantage she has over most of us in the coaching field -- in no way meant to be self-deprecating -- she chuckled, but quickly pointed out we are here for the same higher purpose.

So let’s talk about that a bit, that desire we have for as many people as possible to tap into their gifts and fulfill their potential. Frederick tells client stories in the book, each one an example of how her intuitiveness but also her ability to listen are central to the work.

For instance, Frederick describes Roy as a depressed software engineer, a guy in his early 30s who came to her for help getting another position within the software engineering field.

“While he sat miserably describing his dreary cubicle working conditions and oppressive daily tasks, I saw colorful images of him chasing someone through dark alleyways and working in an office with a large government seal on the wall,” Frederick writes.

It turns out Roy, in his 30s, thought it was too late to pursue a job in the FBI, his real dream. They worked together for months to get his life moving in that direction and he is now enrolled at the FBI academy. This satisfying story is a perfect example of what motivates career coaches to do what they do. It is all part of the mission.

Frederick weaves more compelling client case studies through the book, which is also a hands-on guide to illuminating your own path.

“Choose to be your brilliant, powerful, fearless divine self,” Frederick writes. “The world will align itself with your dreams.”

Believe her.
