Market Winners & Losers: PerkinElmer, AON Corp.

A last-minute rally pushed the major indices into positive territory as Wall Street closed another week in the green. The Dow closed up 0.5%, the S&P matched and the NASDAQ closed up 0.1%.

Here are Friday’s winners and losers:

Winners

PerkinElmer Inc. (PKI)
PerkinElmer’s earnings results beat the Street, boosting the stock 19.9% on Friday. Shares finished the week at $17.47, a gain of $2.90 on the day.

Flir Systems Inc. (FLIR)
The thermal imaging equipment manufacturer saw its stock leap13.7% on Friday on news that its first-quarter profit was up more than 40%. FLIR last traded at $25.21, a gain of $3.03 on the day.

Massey Energy Co. (MEE)
MEE shares closed up 13.6% on Friday, helped by a positive earnings report from the James River Coal Company. MEE closed at $18.07, a gain of $2.16.

Gannett Co. Inc. (GCI)
Following sector trends, Gannett finished up 11.8% on Friday. GCI closed the session at $4.37, a gain of 46 cents.

E*Trade Financial Corp. (ETFC)
ETFC gained 10.5% on Friday, with shares last trading at $1.58, a gain of 15 cents.

Losers

AON Corp. (AON)
An earnings miss helped sink shares of the insurance company 13.8%. The stock ended the week down $5.82, a loss of $36.38 on the day.

Washing Post Co. (WPO)
The publishing company’s first-quarter loss resulted in a 12.9% drop in share price. WPO closed at $264.44, a loss of $54.15 on the day.

Dean Foods Co. (DF)
Investors weren’t pleased with DF’s revised outlook for ’09 and shares fell 8.6%. DF last traded at $18.93, a loss of $1.77 on the day.

Simon Property Group Inc. (SPG)
A dividend cut overshadowed the company’s first-quarter increase and shares fell 8%. SPG finished the week at $47.46, a loss of $4.14 on the day.

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (HIG)
A first-quarter loss pushed shares of the insurance company down 7.9% on Friday. HIG last traded at $10.56, a loss of 91 cents on the day.
