Controversial Cabinet Picks Adding to Administration's Woes

You know things are bad for a prominent Democrat when the New York Times tells you to hang it up.

Now if only The Gray Lady could offer similar inspiration on this stimulus deal.

Here's the deal:

When Tom Daschle lost the support of the New York Times, he was losing air fast.

When another top Obama pick, Nancy Killefer, quit the same day, he was lost, period.

Because Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Daschle is not to be.

Just like Performance Officer Nancy Killefer is not to be.

And I suspect, just like a slam-dunk stimulus plan is not to be.

Not when an administration is on defense over taxes.

And presently unable to get back on offense over how we spend our taxes.

We already knew this stimulus had problems...lots of pork. Lots of waste.

Who knew it could be undone by controversial Cabinet picks...lots of tax issues. Lots of baggage.

And all this at a time Americans are asking lots of questions about stimulus they're not entirely sure they need or whose ever-growing cost they fathom.

You see, neither Mr. Daschle nor Ms. Killefer have anything to do with doubts over stimulus...Just doubts over the wisdom of the administration pursuing it.

And Barack Obama doesn't need doubts right now.

He's already taxed enough.
