Bad Numbers Trump Bad Packages

Missed tonight's Cavuto ? Catch "The Deal" right here on FOXBusiness.com

The worse we look, the more we pay.

Here's the deal:

Bad numbers trump bad packages.

Plain and simple.

No matter the pork, focus on the pathetic.

And right now, the economic numbers look pathetic, which has them forgetting the pork, which is supposed to get those numbers looking less pathetic.

Never mind the pork is pathetic too. Apparently it can't hold a pathetic candle to this...

An unemployment rate of 7.6% and going higher.

...which demands that the cost of whatever the government does should go higher too.

Because, bottom line, we're scared.

And when we're scared, we do stupid things.

And assume stupid things.

Like thinking spending $600 million on new cars for federal workers will help all workers.

Or outfitting all of their offices with new windows, will open everyone's economic windows.

Well, I hate to be a "pane in the glass," but life doesn't work that way.

Throwing more money at a problem doesn't make the problem go away.

And scaring folks to death, saying if they don't throw money at the problem, life as we know it will go away...doesn't make anything go away.

Save this…common sense.

But common sense is in short supply.

Economic woes are not.

We know the numbers look bad, so we ignore the stimulus numbers that look suspect.

...so I suspect we'll go with the numbers that make us cringe...even though we know in our heart of hearts the likely results will make us cringe even more.

But we're panicked. We're desperate. And right now, we're stupid.

And stupid is, as stupid does.
