Market Winners & Losers: Aetna, Sears Holdings

The markets saw another volatile day Monday, with the major indices losing 1.37% on average. With the Madoff case, a possible interest rate cut and an auto bailout in the spotlight, the markets could be in for a wild week.

Here are some of today’s winners and losers:

Winners

Genworth Financial Inc. (GNW)
The stock continued to ride Friday’s momentum, gaining 12% to start the week. The stock closed at $2.80, a gain of 30 cents.

Aetna Inc. (AET)
Shares jumped 11% as the insurer reaffirmed its 2009 guidance. The stock gained $2.32 on Monday, last trading at $23.33.

XL Capital Ltd. (XL)
Shares were up 8.2% on the day, but late news about S&P lowering its rating on the insurers could make for a rough day tomorrow. Shares last traded at $2.90, a gain of 22 cents on the day.

Ciena Corp. (CIEN)
The communications sector was volatile today, but CIEN came out on top, gaining nearly 8% on the day. It closed up 49 cents, selling for $6.62 a share.

Honeywell International Inc.(HON)
The company's reaffirmed near-term outlook sent the stock soaring 6.3% on the day. Shares closed at $30.78, a gain of $1.83.

Losers

Developers Diversified Realty Corp. (DDR)
The company's failure to finalize a major deal sent its stock down 17.4%. The stock closed at $4.70, a loss of nearly $1.00 on the day.

Qwest Communications International Inc. (Q)
The communication-services provider watched its stock fall more nearly 12% on more than 27 million shares traded. Shares closed at $2.77, a loss of 37 cents.

CB Richard Ellis Group Inc (CBG)
The volatile stock continues to bounce back and forth between $3.00 and $4.00. Shares fell 11.76% on Monday, last trading at $3.60, a loss of 48 cents.

Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD)
Early sector gains gave way as trading ended, and the company's stock ended up closing down more that 11%. Shares settled at $40.07, a loss of $5.09. SHLD recently reported losses of $146 million during the last quarter.

Tenet Healthcare Corp. (THC)
Lack of faith in the company continues to hamper the health-care facilities provider. The stock continues to float just above the $1.00 mark, after losing more than 10% today. Shares last traded at $1.23, a loss of 14 cents.
