Attorneys for the Jerry Ford Seafood Distributors in Pass Christian, Miss. have filed a lawsuit over the recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill, according to reports.
According to a report in the Biloxi Sun-Herald, the federal class action lawsuit was filed in a U.S. District Court seeking no less than $5 million in damages.
The lawsuit claims that the Mississippi seafood industry and sport fishing industry will lose millions in profits as a result of the spill, which occurred off the coast of Louisiana on April 20, according to the report.
The lawsuit is meant to represent all residents of Mississippi “who live, work in or derive an income” from the coastal are affected by the oil spill, which followed the explosion of the oil rig, the Sun-Herald reported.
Cameron International Corporation, BP, Transocean,, Halliburton Energy Services Inc. and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., were all named defendants the lawsuit, according to reports.
